Welcome to our FAQ page! Here, we’ve answered some of the most common questions we receive to help you learn more about Somatic Physical Therapy and what to expect. If you have additional questions or need further assistance, don’t hesitate to contact us!

Somatic Physical Therapy is all about helping you regain control of your body and achieve your goals. Whether you’re experiencing pain, stiffness, or movement issues, we take a personalized approach to guide you through recovery. Using one-on-one consultations, thorough assessments, and motion analysis, we create tailored treatment plans to help you feel and move your best. Forget the outdated methods of hot packs and idle exercises—our modern, hands-on approach is designed to reduce pain, restore function, and get you back to doing what you love.

Can I do physical therapy after surgery if my doctor didn’t recommend it?

Absolutely! Even if your doctor didn’t specifically recommend physical therapy, it can play a critical role in your recovery after surgery. Many patients hear, “You’ll be fine without it,” but a PT evaluation is often necessary to build strength, restore mobility, and prevent long-term issues. Plus, in most cases, you don’t need a referral to see a Doctor of Physical Therapy. We can assess your needs and create a personalized plan to help you heal more effectively.

Should I bring my X-ray and MRI reports?

Yes, if you have imaging reports, please bring them along to your appointment. Alternatively, you can email or fax them to our office before your visit. These reports can provide valuable insight and help guide your treatment plan.

What should I wear to therapy?

Make sure to wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated. Since physical therapy often involves movement, exercises, and stretches, you’ll want to avoid anything restrictive—skinny jeans might not be your best choice! If needed, feel free to bring a change of clothes.

Can you help me get back to golfing?

Yes, we can! Golf places unique demands on the body, often leading to issues like back pain, hip tension, or golfer’s elbow. Since it’s a one-sided sport, the repetitive movements can create muscle imbalances and strain on the joints. At Somatic, we’ll assess your specific needs and create a program to improve your mobility, strength, and balance so you can enjoy your game without discomfort.

How long is each physical therapy visit?

At Somatic, every visit lasts 50 minutes and is entirely one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. We don’t rush or pass you off to an assistant—our focused approach ensures you receive the highest quality care, tailored to your needs.

How much does therapy cost, and do you offer discounts?

Our initial evaluation, which includes treatment, starts at $219. Follow-up sessions are priced at $169 each. Discounted packages are also available—designed to help you save while committing to your recovery. Contact us to learn more about these packages.

Can I work on things at home between visits?

Definitely! Your therapist will give you home exercises, stretches, and posture tips to reinforce your treatment. Check out our blog for additional resources to support your progress.

How do I book my appointment?

We offer convenient online booking through our website. Not sure if therapy is right for you? Start with a Free Somatic Diagnostic—a no-obligation, 15-minute session to discuss your needs with a Doctor of Physical Therapy.

What happens if I’m running late?

We understand that life happens! Your appointment time is reserved exclusively for you, so we kindly ask that you notify us if you’re running late. This helps us adjust and accommodate everyone’s schedule as best as we can.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

No problem! Just notify us at least 24 hours before your appointment to cancel or reschedule. This allows us to open up the slot for another patient in need. Late cancellations (within 24 hours) may incur a fee.

What is a Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) test?

An NCV test is used to diagnose issues like numbness, tingling, muscle weakness, or cramping. Along with electromyography (EMG), it measures electrical activity in your nerves and muscles to help diagnose nerve or muscle dysfunction.

How should I prepare for my NCV test?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to the area being tested. Please avoid using lotions or creams on the area for at least four hours before your test. If you have open wounds or infections, inform our office before your appointment.

What makes Somatic Physical Therapy different?

We’re proud to offer a personalized approach that prioritizes your unique needs. Every session is 50 minutes, one-on-one with a licensed physical therapist, ensuring consistent and high-quality care. Our goal is to help you recover faster with fewer visits, thanks to our focused and individualized treatment model.

Do I need a doctor’s prescription for physical therapy?

Not in Georgia! You can see a physical therapist for 21 days or up to eight visits without a referral. If you have Medicare, however, a referral is required before starting treatment.

What if I can’t attend in-person sessions?

No worries! We offer virtual consultations and treatments for patients who prefer the convenience of remote care. Learn more about our telehealth options on our website.

Is physical therapy covered by insurance?

While we don’t bill insurance directly, we work with you to help you use your out-of-network benefits. We provide a “superbill” for reimbursement and accept HSA payments. Contact your insurance provider for details on your out-of-network coverage.

Why is Somatic PT out-of-network?

We choose to stay out-of-network to maintain the highest quality of care. Unlike traditional practices, we provide longer sessions, one-on-one care, and individualized treatment plans. Our patients experience faster results and require fewer visits, creating both short- and long-term value.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your individual needs and progress! Scheduling a Free Somatic Diagnostic is the best way to determine your treatment timeline and recovery plan.
